Anya Thakur is an award-winning teen celebrity journalist, poet, activist, and TedxDallasWomen events compere. Her work has been nationally recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in Carnegie Hall and National Student Poets Program, and her poetry has won a National Gold Medal. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. She launched the ArtRising campaign in partnership with MetoWe to advocate for the increased visibility of underrepresented minorities in arts and entertainment, spearheading the mission to elevate women and diverse voices. Convening female activists and artists to celebrate their contributions in media, the campaign creates diverse programming for and about women, particularly underrepresented minorities such as South and East Asian women. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. And she is the founder of ShePower, an initiative working in underserved communities, and parts of rural India, which has received funding from the Jane Goodall Foundation, and whose humanitarian work with Myna Mahila furthers UN Women's mission to ensure a fair and equitable future. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. As the president of GirlUp Dallas, a UN Women foundation, and editor in chief of art and literary newspaper, "Winged," she is passionate about leading creative change and telling the stories of those around her. She serves the ESL community in her school through creating Coalition for Community, which aims to better integrate the students through arts, academics, leadership, and primarily friendships and community. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Her poetry, essays and reviews have appeared in TeenInk, TeenReads, the LA Times, and more. She also works to increase the visibility of women in media, having profiled hundreds of celebrities and a host of notables including Malala Yousafzai, Emma Watson, and Oprah Winfrey among other game-changing celebrities, actors, artists, and activists.
