‘Captain America: Civil War’ gives everyone a hero to root for

From Iron Man to Ant-Man to the Avengers, Marvel Studios has done an excellent job of bringing the classic comic book characters to life. “Captain America: Civil War,” their newest addition to the superhero series, not only perfectly balances the action, drama and comedy, but features 12 different superheroes, giving everyone something to enjoy.

The movie takes place after “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and focuses more on the destruction that the heroes have caused. In most superhero movies, the protagonist cause a lot of damage on the cities and citizens, but because it’s “for the greater good,” it is often overlooked.

This movie, however, is an exception. Rather than making the heroes seem like positive figures, it sheds light on the death they have caused and how it is affecting everyday families.

The government wants to put certain provisions into play to prevent the Avengers from causing too much unnecessary trouble. This is what ends up dividing the team: Iron Man (due to recent personal confrontations) agrees, but Captain America does not. He believes he needs to do whatever he can to keep the Winter Soldier, his previous friend who happened to be one of the villains in the last Captain America movie, safe, which involves breaking the rules these provisions would cause.

One of the most iconic scenes in the movie would have to be the epic battle between all the heroes: not only are both Captain America and Iron Man involved, but previous favorites get in on the action, including Black Widow, Ant-Man, Hawkeye and a few new characters as well.

What makes this scene so great is not only all the action, but all the comedy that is involved. It is just one of the many times Marvel Studios has successfully made the audience’s adrenaline pump and stomach hurt from laughter at the same time.

What makes this movie stand out from the others is the fact that they avoid making the heroes seem like they are only doing things for the good of the world: it proves that these heroes are (mostly) humans who take selfish actions, make mistakes and even turn against each other at times when they need each other most.

As all the other movies do, Captain America: Civil War features an impressive cast list. Captain America is once again played by Chris Evans, who is also known for playing “The Human Torch” in “Fantastic Four.”

Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Hank Palmer in “The Judge” and Larry Paul in TV series “Ally McBeal,” returns to his role as Iron Man. The Black Widow is played by Scarlett Johansson, known for playing Lucy in “Lucy” and Charlotte in “Lost in Translation.”

Director Joe Russo has had previous experience with Marvel Studios, directing “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Other production members did an excellent job adding lifelike effects, unique camera angles and overall making you feel like a part of the action.

So far, Captain America: Civil War has been doing extremely well, earning both positive ratings and scoring fifth best opening weekend ever. They earned $181.8 million, scored a 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.5/10 on IMDb.

Whether you are a bigger fan of action or comedy, heroes or villains, or Captain America or Iron Man, you will enjoy this film. It balances two contrasting genres, themes and characters, leaving you both on the edge of your seat and wanting more. Captain America: Civil War is great for all types of audiences, giving everyone a hero to root for.
