LA River School

Life after high school

It’s crazy how teenagers are the most complicated and misunderstood people. Our elders want us to act like adults the minute we turn 18, but still treat us like children. It’s even scarier how we will soon be attending college and have to think about what we want to do for the rest of our life.

I thought I had wanted to be a registered nurse but then I discovered many other interesting careers. I’m scared that I will always be unsure and start my career later than I anticipated or choose something I end up not enjoying. Everything is overwhelming. How am I supposed to declare a major when I’m barely beginning to know myself?!

I was accepted to all four CSU’s that I applied to but decided to go to community college instead. I find going straight to a university after high school a waste of money because the first two years of college is general education, so why start off paying more than a community college? But what do I know? I’ve yet to experience college and don’t know the difference in curriculum so maybe my opinion will change in the future. Everyone says that college is fun but I think it’s going to be the most stressful thing.

After graduating I will be attending the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in Las Vegas and traveling to Mexico, New York, and Boston. EDC is a big rave they have every year all around the world and I’m super excited to be attending this event! My best friend and I are going together and will be staying at a hotel because it is a three-day event exactly one week after graduation.

When I travel to Mexico I will be going with my mom and friends for a week or two and rent a beach house. My uncle lives in Boston and bought my parents and I our plane tickets. Whenever I visit my uncle we visit amazing places and go on road trips. This year he will be taking us to New York and Maryland, so I’m looking forward to making many memories this summer.

I think it will be my best summer yet now that I’m 18. Everyone says that college is fun but I think it’s going to be the most stressful thing. I wish my summer vacation doesn’t go by too fast!
