Ten tracks for summer

Whether you’re going on a cruise, starting an internship, or relaxing at home, nothing beats a music playlist to get you in the summer mood. Here are ten tracks to kick off the warmest season of the year:

1.  “Maliblue” by Darius

Darius, French master of deep house, has the perfect tunes to get your summer pumping. As one YouTube commenter describes it, “Maliblue” is so fresh it makes you feel as if you “just walked into a Caprisun.”

2.  “The Bay” by Metronomy

Electronic band Metronomy sing about the English Riviera’s “endless beaches” in this upbeat, catchy song.

3.  “Glimpse” by Vacationer

Vacationer channels easy-going vibes throughout “Glimpse” that leave you yearning for a nice sunset and a hammock on the beach.

4.  “Lovely You” by Monster Rally

Ted Feighan of Monster Rally is one of the few tropical pop artists in today’s music industry. His song “Lovely You” acts as an audible vacation to Hawaii.

5.  “Warm Frames” by Toro y Moi

Soothing guitar and nostalgic lyrics make “Warm Frames” the perfect song for the drive home from that summer internship.

6.  “Something Someone Jr.” by The Growlers

A summer playlist wouldn’t be complete without a song by Southern California’s very own The Growlers. As the founders of “beach goth,” The Growlers mix surf pop and garage rock in their song “Something Someone Jr.”

7.  “Blue Boy” by Mac DeMarco

Mac DeMarco creates a relaxing, mellow atmosphere in his song “Blue Boy” that makes your summer feel carefree.

8.  “Kenyah” by Thee Rain Cats

Orange County natives Thee Rain Cats voice their desire for a “place to call [their] own, living by the sea” in this psych pop hit.  “Kenyah” is perfect for that morning bike ride through Venice Beach.

9.  “Sur La Planche” by La Femme

Here is a tune “en français” but you don’t have to be a Francophile to appreciate the beachy guitar riffs.  “Sur la Planche” is reminiscent of 60s surf music and incorporates synthetic, Kraftwerk-esque funk as well.

10. “Sunlight” by The Magician

The Magician makes you jump up and dance to his hit single “Sunlight.” With vocal support from British band Years and Years, “Sunlight” embraces summer with open arms.
