Horror fans rejoice—on June 5, “Insidious: Chapter 3″ will come to theaters. And what better way to beat the summer heat than with a chilling tale of hungry demons and an otherworldly odyssey? Starring Leigh Whannell, Lin Shaye, Dermot Mulroney, and newcomer to the genre Stefanie Scott—whom you might recognize from Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm”—the film neatly ties the origins of the franchise’s first two chapters together. And adds a creepy little demonic bow on top.
“It’s definitely fresh—it’s an origin story, and it sets up the other two movies,” Scott commented. “I think it’s the darkest of all of them. I love [the film’s] relationship to loss.” She added, “What really stands out about it is that it’s a relatable story, it’s not your classic cliche film.”
According to Scott, the dark entity in the movie “literally sucks the life out of [its victims]. There’s nothing you can do to get away from it.” “Insidious: Chapter 3″’s fear factor doesn’t come from spurting fountains of blood and gore: the film plays more on a psychological fear, one that makes the audience question what’s really waiting for them on the other side.
The best thing about “Insidious: Chapter 3″ being an origin story, Scott said, is that “it starts right at the beginning. If you haven’t seen the first two, …everything [will still] connect together. And if you’re an Insidious fan, you get to see how everything in the first two came to be.”
