The Bishop Amat Lancers looked to avenge last week’s loss to Serra, and did just that Friday night in a 49-24 victory over the Alemany Warriors. Alemany entered as Mission League contenders and are ranked eighth in the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division after a devastating loss to Chaminade in their previous game.

Alemany’s first drive resulted in a punt that was returned to Alemany’s five-yard line by USC commit Tyler Vaughns. On the next play, Torreahno Sweet rushed it in for  five yards for the game’s first score. Sweet added to his touchdown total by exploding for a 31-yard touchdown run with 3:49 left in the first quarter to give Amat a 14-0 lead over Alemany. Sweet finished the game with 81 yards and three touchdowns.

Amat quarterback Damian Garcia helped the Lancers take a 35-3 behind a 38-yard strike to Vaughns. Garcia then went to his other deadly target, throwing a 55-yard pass to Trevon Sidney for an eventual 42-3 lead at the half. Sidney caught his second touchdown of the night, a 17-yard pass from secondary quarterback Ryder Ruiz for a 49-3 lead. Like his teammate Vaughns, Sidney is also is also committed to the USC.

Alemany quarterback Brevin White had one of his passes tipped and intercepted by Clarence Carter who returned the ball 38 yards for a touchdown. Throughout the game it became more apparent of White’s lack of experience showing everyone that he is only just a sophomore and still has a lot of room to improve due to his inconsistency and getting rattled by an impressive Amat defense.

White saw most of his success when he connected with his receiver Jarrin Pierce. Pierce had three receptions within the first three minutes of the game and caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from White at the end of the third quarter to cut the Bishop Amat lead to 49-10 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Alemany started to find its groove against the Lancers’ backup defense. It took Alemany three plays to go 55 yards and score another touchdown off a 35-yard run by Cayden Dunn. Dunn got another touchdown from two yards out as the Lancers had fumbled a kickoff by Alex Navarro who added a 43-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter.

Alemany will look to get back to winning ways this Friday night against the Loyola Cubs.

Poem: To My Target Panic

I remember the first time I met you, the first Sunday of September. Before we met, archery was predictable; my routine was reliable. The weight of my quiver, the resistance of my string, the curve of my limbs, and Sunday morning practice, it was always the same. But...
