Angie Santana, freshman:
Favorite Christmas song from childhood:
“Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber. [My sister] Tori played it and I loved it, I guess.
Favorite Christmas album:
Mariah Carey’s “Merry Christmas II You”, [because] the songs are lit.
Song that makes you laugh:
“Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” IS funny.
Song that makes you smile:
Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas is You”. She hits all the right notes. Queen.
Song you cannot go through Christmas without:
“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” by *NSYNC.
Favorite version of a classic:
“Baby It’s Cold Outside” by Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel.
Favorite religious song:
“Joy to the World” because I could get my dance on.
Arthur Arellano, junior:
Favorite song from childhood:
“Jingle Bells,” it’s not Christmas without “Jingle Bells.”
Favorite album:
I definitely need to hear any music on the “Nightmare Before Christmas” soundtrack.
Favorite classics:
“Frosty the Snowman” is poppin’ and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” is a must, but that one where it’s like “have a holly jolly Christmas” is a banger. “Feliz Navidad” is an essential for my family [because] we are Mexican.
Josh Bloomer, senior:
Favorite childhood song:
“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” one I immediately and happily committed to memory as a child.
Silly story about singing Christmas carols at school:
Well, hearing me sing at all is silly enough, but I remember for my class’ second grade pageant we did a Christmas song performance. There were all of these wacky hand motions with the songs, and the guy next to me kept flailing his arms around so much that he always blocked my face from view. My parents weren’t able to find me on stage for the whole performance.
Favorite religious song:
“Joy to the World.”
Song you need to hear every Christmas:
Definitely Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” (see below for the picture).
Now, my Christmas playlist has some interesting choices and if you were to listen to any of it. I would highly recommend “Holiday Sweater” because it is the best and most fun Christmas rap you can hear. That song brings absolute joy and is fun to memorize because the rhymes are catchy and clever.
I also think that “Don’t Be a Jerk (It’s Christmas)” is a good song because of the messages behind it. Christmas is a time where many forget the true reason behind this wonderful time of the year and this song is great at reminding us to be nice this time of year. It is very unique and almost silly, but the message is serious and timeless.
Enjoy these festive hits because this is a fun time of year and it goes by so quickly! Merry Christmas to all!
