Dear future president,

I am writing to you today to talk about an issue that’s near and dear to my heart: campaign finance reform.

The Supreme Court’s decision, Citizens United, argues that “money equals free speech,” meaning that huge sums of money could be privately donated to a presidential campaign. Many corporations say that regulations are “too restricting” or that it’s too much. I disagree, and urge our future president to repeal this decision, which puts a select few voices over the voices of many.

As someone who is in the middle class and will be exiting high school, I find this disastrous. People running for office with super PACs or lobbyists will have a direct influence on my pay, house, job, or education. It is up to you to assure people they will have their basic needs met. No one should have to worry about being snuffed out by big money interests.

You must take charge of ending this cycle of greedy and reinforced corruption. Lead the charge, so that this generation will not be left poor and homeless. It is high time that the people are heard.

Sincerely,

Jake Fazio
