Going into their series against first place rival Los Altos, the Charter Oak baseball team was one game behind them. If they beat the Conquerors in both games, the Chargers would’ve taken first place in the Hacienda League.
Charter Oak hosted the first game of the series on April 22. They controlled the game defensively from the start, as the Conquerors did not score a run for the entire game. The Chargers themselves couldn’t get anything going at first until the third inning, when they scored the go-ahead run. They added another run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth, and finished the shutout to seal the 2-0 victory.
Charter Oak was now in the driver’s seat, and went into Los Altos on April 24 for the second game of the series, looking to take control of first place of the Hacienda League. Things started off less than ideal, giving up a run in the bottom of the third. The Chargers tied the score, 1-1, in the top of the fourth, however they gave up another run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to find themselves in a 4-1 deficit. In the top of the seventh, the Chargers dug deep and scored three runs to tie the score, 4-4. However, their comeback story would be cut short as the Conquerors scored again to save their first-place standing, winning 5-4.
The Chargers now head into a two-game series against Walnut, hosting the first game on April 29.
