The Pearl Post wins 1st place award for Best High School Newspaper

On June 28, new Print Editor-in-Chief Ilana Gale, former Online Editor-in-Chief Christopher Bower and former Print Editor-in-Chief Natalie Moore from The Pearl Post attended the 57th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards, which was hosted by the Los Angeles Press Club. That night, The Pearl Post and Beverly Hills High School’s Highlights were both nominated for Best High School Newspaper. During the awards dinner, it was announced that The Pearl Post won 1st Place and Highlights took second. Daniel Pearl’s parents, Dr. Judea Pearl and Ruth Pearl, were in attendance and saw the school they helped create in memory of their son to win the award. Other awards recipients included CBS This Morning’s Gayle King, Norah O’Donnell and Charlie Rose, who were awarded the President’s Award. Also, “Charlie Hebdo” was awarded the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism by Dr. Pearl. Antonio Fischetti accepted the award on behalf of the satirical magazine.
