Today I bought tickets to see Halsey this November at the Honda Theatre in Los Angeles!

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known under the stage name Halsey, is an American singer and songwriter. She is almost 21, and released her first album, Room 93.

She grew up in New Jersey, but spent a lot of time in Brooklyn, N.Y. which becomes a motif in her music; she got her name “Halsey” because it was the name of a street in Brooklyn that she spent a lot of time on during her childhood.

Halsey was unable to afford to go to college, and used music to pay her rent. She has been performing since she was 18 as a career, originally playing small gigs and posting on YouTube. Since then, Halsey recorded a song in 2014 called “Ghost.” She posted it on SoundCloud and immediately gained recognition. People everywhere loved the song and wanted more.

Ghost resonated because people related to it in a metaphorical sense; for instance, the loss of someone is expressed in the lyric “my ghost, where did you go, I can’t find you in the body sleeping next to me.”  The lyric resonates with me in that she is saying that guy used to be her angel, and he is not anymore, his soul has changed. It communicates that deep feeling that someone changes.

In 2014, she released her first album Room 93, which had five songs including “Ghost.”

Fans also connect with another song titled “Trouble (Stripped).” It’s about the problem of loving someone who is bad for her, and the feeling that she needs him, but he does not really need her.

What I like about all of her songs is that they flow with great melody. Plus, she has phenomenal personal style.  She is often changing her hair color, and her style of dress is cool and alternative.

Today, Halsey is traveling the world for her “Badlands” tour, living her dream, and still loving Star Wars.
