After a tough battle against Troy High School on Nov. 29 at the Santa Ana Courthouse, Fountain Valley (FV) Mock Trial came out on top. The team is currently undefeated, 3-0, taking a win after beating Troy High School.
The third round of the preliminaries started with a performance by pre-trial attorney junior Jane Liu, who paved the way for the rest of the trial with her argument to have an incriminating statement admitted. Then attorneys, senior Evelyn Hoang, and juniors Hannah Brine and Kyla Alberto took the stand. Through their strong witness direction, they weaved a story to sway the judge to their favor. During Troy’s cross-examinations, there were many objections made by FV, most of which, were sustained.
Despite this victory, FV Mock Trial hopes to advance even further in the competition.
“I think it honestly was a great performance, but there’s always room for improvement and things we could have done better,” said captain and senior Ally Lenguyen.
After the trial, Alberto earned an MVP nomination awarded from the defense for her strong cross-examinations.
Other student nominations from scoring attorneys and the opposing side include Alberto, sophomore Ryan Ash, junior Hannah Brine, sophomore Helen Dang-Vu, senior Evelyn Hoang, junior Jane Liu, and junior Taylor Nguyen.
FV Mock Trial is on stand for the defense on Thursday. This will be the last round of the preliminaries, and it will determine whether or not FV will be part of the top 16 for the playoffs.
