In order to give back to the community, the residents of the Northeast area held a children toy giveaway event at the Northeast LAPD station last Christmas.
They received many donations from the Children’s hospital, Tuned in Tokyo Car Club, New Life Vision Church, Go fund me accounts, and Target. Each site has given either funds or toys to help with this giveaway.
“We wanted to give back to our community and let children have toys that they have always wanted,” said a volunteer.
They so far have reached out to 500 kids by spreading the word and using flyers. All of the children who live in the Northeast area are welcome to come to choose their favorite toys at the police station. Many parents have willingly volunteered to organize the event and reached to many of their friends and family to come and participate in this event.
The volunteers set up a room in the police station that is filled with tables that contain mountains of toys on it. Outside, many people line up to go in and pick their favorite toy. One volunteer mentioned that since there were so many people in the room, they had to make people wait in line to enter. Senior Lead Officer Lenny Davis mentioned that he wishes that the 2019 toy giveaway will be even bigger.
