Bonita closed out their regular season with a 15-3 win over Claremont and a flawless home record in water polo.
The game was also the last regular season home game for five seniors: Jessica Carnahan, Rachel Guarino, Ciara Dennison, Erin Gonzalez, and goalie Alisha Plum.
Gonzalez, one of the senior captains, is a recent commit to St. Francis and scored five of Bonita’s 15 goals. The seniors made sure to contribute to this game. Co-captain Guarino also scored a goal. Carnahan scored a great goal in the opening seconds of the second quarter. Plum was great during the second half, giving up only one goal.
Bonita’s defense helped make this game look easy by running out the clock during Claremont’s possession. The pressure on Claremont forced inaccurate shots and missed opportunities. Goaltending was also stellar for Bonita with great blocks by both goalies.
The Bearcats did not let the huge lead get to them the entire game by not falling off. The defense held strong and the offense continued to produce in each quarter. Freshman phenom Amanda Legaspi also scored six goals in the game and showed the future of the team.
Six goals were scored in the first quarter and Claremont was never able to answer back from that. With two goals in the second quarter, Bonita still had a seven goal lead on Claremont. The Bearcats attacked the goal the best in the beginning of the quarters during the second half.
The Bearcats remain victorious at home and will continue their dominance with CIF playoffs on the horizon. With five girls graduating, the team is still in good hands with the juniors stepping up and a freshman already making waves. Hopefully, the girls will go far in the playoffs for their five seniors.
