Bright year for the Etiwanda Eagles wrestling team

The 2014-2015 wrestling season for the Etiwanda wrestling team looks very promising.  Last year’s wrestling team qualified 12 of its 14 wrestlers for the C.I.F Tournament at Temecula Valley High School, and one wrestler for the Masters Tournament at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

This year, the wrestling team has 7 of the 12 C.I.F qualifiers returning as well as the one Masters qualifier.

This year’s wrestling team is led by captains Aaron Garcia ‘15, Jeremy Garcia ‘15 and Tim Valarde ‘15.  Aaron Garcia was last year’s only Masters qualifier while Jeremy Garcia and Valarde were C.I.F qualifiers.

As the three captains strive to place in the state tournament, junior Merril Ortiz is not far behind them.  This year’s varsity team is mainly a senior team.

“It’s good this year to have a mainly senior team,” said Jeremy Garcia. “It makes us stronger for duel meets and that’s what’s going to help get us to a league championship.”

The Eagles are 3-0 in league play in defeating Los Osos High School, 45-25, Rancho Cucamonga High School, 40-36, and Damien High School, 48-25.

The Eagles are striving for a league title for the first time in 23 years.  They have been training relentlessly over summer and are going to strive during this 2014-2015 season.
