On Sunday, I had the surreal experience of interviewing on the blue carpet for the Teen Choice Awards 2015. Held at the USC Galen Center, the event was truly an exceptional tribute to teens, and those that inspire them.

As I walked up to the press area teens lined the streets awaiting a glimpse of their favorite stars. And, I thought to myself three years ago I was a fan, and today I am here to bring the voices of the stars to the fans through words, pictures, and video- an awesome responsibility.

What struck me was not the magnitude of celebrity presence, nor their exceptional performances, but instead, I was struck with how earnest and sincere the stars were. They took the time to stop and talk and express their thoughts on what being a teen means/meant to them, and to offer advice to teens worldwide.  I really felt that each and every one of them took their role as mentors seriously and worked to project messages that resonate with our generation.

From Tyler Oakley who discussed the dimensions of coming out, to Cameron Dallas who discussed his relationship to God, each star offered a piece of themselves to teens. Mostly, I learned from the stars that when we set goals, work hard, and keep on the grind, our possibilities are endless. Whether we want to be an actor, musician, doctor, lawyer, teacher, or scientist, the universe of options is open to us, we just have to set our minds toward achieving- there is a “surfboard” award out there for each and every teen, and it is up to each of us to find a way to surf the waves of lives.  So, I ask, how will you navigate the waves, what intentions are you setting for your future?  How will you your version of the next teen choice?

I want to thank each of the stars for their words of wisdom, through that you are all winners; And, a shout out of congratulations to those that won surfboards.  In total, 25 million votes were cast:
