Opinion: Even without Zayn Malik, there will always be five in our hearts

As many California fans were looking forward for the One Direction concert on July 8 in San Diego, many thought that one member of the band, Zayn Malik, was as happy as can be. Malik was talking more on stage while performing and even tweeting more, which is uncommon for the typically shy member of One Direction.

Other band mates, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson have had many accomplishments as a five-part band: selling out Madison Square Garden three nights in a row, having all four albums debut at number one on the billboard charts, being named top artist of the year in 2014, and having their first stadium tour in 2014. However, with all of this success, Malik had a decision to make.

March 25 is a day that stands out to One Direction fans all over the world: this is the day that Zayn Malik left the band.

The official One Direction Facebook released a statement that morning, leaving fans shocked and wanting more than just a statement. According to the Facebook post Malik, “want[s] to be a normal 22 year old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

Although he wants to be a normal 22-year-old, five days after his announcement, he was spotted at a recording studio and the same day, a producer, Naughty Boy, released a demo of Zayn’s song on his Twitter page. Fans all over the world felt outraged and wanted the truth from Zayn, but to this day, he has not expressed anything towards the band. Many fans feel confused about the whole situation and will continue to feel this way until he announces anything.

The former X Factor contestants have decided to continue their second stadium tour and will be releasing their fifth studio album later this year without Zayn. The four remaining members have tweeted their thank yous to their loyal fans for their continuous support. Even Liam Payne, tweeted, “This last week has been some of the worst times, possibly the worst.” However, it will always be four in our eyes and five in our hearts.
