Volunteering can have a positive impact on your life; it could also enhance your college application. If you are having trouble on coming across on volunteer opportunities you would like, here’s the list for you.

Heaven on Earth Cat Adoptions: This no-kill cat facility is always looking for volunteers; if you are under 18, you can become a Perry’s Place volunteer and play with the cage-free cats. By socializing with these animals, you make them comfortable with humans and could be adopted faster. Volunteer hours are Friday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please visit Heavenlypets.org.

KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now): This nonprofit organization allows volunteers, who have to be 15 years or older, to exercise with special needs kids. The KEEN coaches will participate with the kids in different sports like soccer, gymnastics, and basketball. This would be a great opportunity if you would like to work with kids in the future. If you are interested in this great organization, please go to KeenLosAngeles.org or contact Crystal Garcia at info@keenlosangeles.org.

18th Annual Alive and Running 5k Run/Walk: On Sept. 25, the Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services’ Suicide Prevention Center will be raising awareness for the people affected by suicide. This walk/run needs volunteers for Kiddie K corner, water, bib, and t-shirt distribution, finish line cheerleaders and more. For more info on this event, go to http://www.laworks.com/ and search for ‘18th Annual Alive and Running 5k Run/Walk’.

Homework Club at your nearest middle school: If you like to reminisce about your middle school days, this might be the perfect option. Many middle schools offer after school tutoring and let high school students help the students. Just contact your nearest middle school and ask about after school tutoring.

I hope everyone does their duty and take part in some of these great volunteer opportunities. Since college apps are already out, seniors need to get as much volunteer hours as possible; these hours will look great on your application. Good luck and get to volunteering!
