Dear future president,

Have you ever asked yourself, how much CO2 do cars emit into the atmosphere? Have you ever asked yourself what kind of energy we can use instead of fossil fuel that does not emit a lot of CO2?

I have felt the weather and it’s off because it’s hot when it’s autumn time. We need cars that are not releasing CO2. We need cars that can run on something else instead of gasoline. We need to invent cars that are able to run on biofuels.

We have too much CO2 in the air which is messing up the weather. If we don’t act now there will be a global disaster.

One reason we need to prevent global warming is because the polar ice caps will melt. “What happens if all ice on land melts and sea levels rise by 216 feet? If we keep emitting like we’ve been, the results are drastic. Florida, Delaware, Louisiana, and New Jersey are almost entirely underwater. The entire eastern coastline is submerged. The Central Valley of California will become a large bay. The Yucatán peninsula will go too, as will much of Cuba and Hispaniola,” stated Dylan Matthews, in The Washington post article, “What America will look like once global warming melts the polar ice caps.”

“The Netherlands, Denmark, much of England, and all the land around Venice are underwater. So basically all of Bangladesh and much of China and India. The five largest threatened are Kolkata (Calcutta) and Mumbai (Bomba) in India, Dhaka in Bangladesh, Guangzhou in China, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam,” added Matthews. This is terrible and we need to stop now. This is a global disaster and everybody needs to act now in order to prevent this disaster.

Another problem is that electric cars are more expensive than gas running cars. They do save a lot in fuel though. “ While electric cars will cost more upfront than their gasoline-powered compatriots, in the long run, they may be cheaper to operate. The biggest savings will be in fuel,” states Jamie Page Deaton, in How Stuff Works, “Are Electric Cars Cheaper to Run?” We need environmental cars because they are more efficient than regular cars. We need to subsidize this to make more availability and save the environment.

Burning one gallon of gas creates 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, and the average car emits about six tons of carbon dioxide every year. It’s everybody’s responsibility to save the environment if you want to live in a normal, healthy environment.

“The last two decades of the 20th century have been hottest in the last 400 years, according to climate studies. Since 1880, the average temperature has risen by 1.4-Fahrenheit degrees,” states National Geographic in “Global Warming Fast Facts.” This is proof that Global warming is a problem and it’s real.

We need to shut down all factories that produce fossil fuels because they are the biggest contributor to global warming. There are many alternatives to fossil fuels. “These include Biomass Energy, Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Geothermal Energy, Hydroelectric Energy sources. Combined with the use of recycling, the use of clean alternative energies such as the home use of solar power systems will help ensure man’s survival into the 21st century and beyond,” stated altenergy.org in “Alternative Energy.”

Weather has changed majorly and the seasons are messed up. When it’s winter it’s hot and these are signs of global warming. When is summer it’s cold and these seasons are messed up. Global warming also puts in danger of extinction of endangered species. If this occurs, then the food chain would be messed up and eventually die. Then there will be less food and everything will starve to death. This puts people in health risk because people don’t want to live in that kind of world and will eventually die.

We need cars that can run on something else that is not gasoline, need to invent better and cheaper cars, and need to use alternative energies instead of using fossil fuels. If we don’t act now the world is going to be in danger.

Sincerely,

Chris Lopez
