20th Century Fox has just released the trailer for “Hidden Figures,” an upcoming film based on the untold true story of the brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.
Based on the trailer, “Hidden Figures” is looking to be an inspirational, empowering movie to women everywhere, depicting the three women succeeding at NASA despite the daily racism and sexism they faced at every turn in their lives. The film follows brilliant mathematician, Katherine Johnson, who helped calculate the trajectories for astronaut John Glenn and all of our early space missions. She headed a team of African-American women who excelled at mathematics. Johnson became the first female at NASA to achieve a high-ranking engineering position.
In 2017, during NASA/Langley’s 100th Anniversary Celebrations, NASA will celebrate Johnson, who is in her 90s, and her team of amazing women.
The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe along with Kevin Costner and Kirsten Dunst. The film hits theaters in January 2017. The film’s screenplay is based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly.
