Summer Fun in L.A.

It’s a great time to be in L.A. this summer!  With the school year coming to an end, it’s time to drop your backpacks and put on your flip flops for some fun in the sun.  Here’s a list of summer activities worth checking out:

Outdoor Movie Theater

Got nothing to do on a Saturday night? Head out to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to catch an outdoor movie!  The cemetery features a wide variety of films from sci-fi to indie.  In June, classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Harold and Maude will be screened.  Movies start at 9pm and cost $15.

For all you music lovers out there, I’m sure you’ve already checked out the lineup for FYF fest.  And if you haven’t… all I can say is it’s AWESOME.  The two day event is the perfect combination of classic bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and Belle & Sebastian mixed in with a few local favorites like Joyce Manor and Girlpool.  The festival begins August 22 and tickets are going fast! If you’re looking to end the summer with a bang, FYF is definitely the fest for you.

 KCRW Summer Nights

FYF too pricey? Have no fear, KCRW Summer Nights is here! Every year, KCRW puts on free, all ages concerts across the Southland.  This summer, popular artists Morris Day, Real Estate, and Ariel Pink will perform at the Santa Monica Pier.  There will also be a couple shows at the famous Chinatown Central Plaza, but the lineup has yet to be released.

4th of July baseball game: Dodgers vs Mets

Sure, you could spend your 4th of July at the crowded California beaches, but the real celebration lies with the fans at Dodger Stadium. Kick off the summer with a Dodger dog, peanuts, and cracker jacks while rooting for the home team. This year, the LA Dodgers will be playing the NY Mets with a huge 4th of July fireworks show to end the game.

 Music Center: Dance Downtown

If you’re looking to spice up your summer, how about free salsa lessons? Starting in June, The Music Center in Downtown LA is holding their annual “Dance Downtown” which offers free dance lessons ranging from Bollywood to Tango.  With live music and a huge dance floor, it’s the perfect hangout for you and your friends to spend a Friday night.
