Renaissance High School For The Arts

An outsider in an art school

When you go to a school where everyone wants to be a star it is easy to get lost in the crowd.

My school gives great focus to the arts which is great for kids who want to pursue a branch of the arts into their adult lives. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to express themselves the way they want to.

There are the theater kids, dance kids, music/choir kids, arts kids, and the kids who do a little bit of everything. I, myself sing and do enjoy it, but my true passion lies with writing which does not really exist in my school. The only writing opportunities that are offered are scriptwriting (which will not be offered next year) and journalism. We did try to get a Creative Writing class for next year, but we got shot down. I was disappointed because it only confirmed what I already knew, that no one cares about writing at my school.

So I do feel lost in the crowd. Whenever my friends talk about how busy they are in their department I have nothing to add because I don’t have a department or an outlet to express myself the way I would really like to. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way and hopefully all arts can be represented one day. Although, that day does not seem to be anywhere in sight.
