PEN in the Community Journalism Workshop
At a time when free expression rights, the role of journalists, and the imperative of press freedom are being challenged daily, PEN America launched the PEN In the Community Journalism workshop, in partnership with L.A. Times HS Insider, and made possible by the generous support of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Led by journalist and editor Neelanjana Bannerjee, and hosted by English teacher Marisa Moran at Hilda Solis Learning Academy, this group of ambitious students participated in a hands-on introduction to journalism while reporting timely stories for an inaugural school paper, the Jaguar Times, named in honor of the school’s mascot.
