Toys, food, and shoes for everyone!


The greatest gift you can give someone is your time. Because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.

Giving back has many meanings. I think it means to be warm and kind, also, to be open to others. Giving back is helping a community, making it stronger and bringing people together.

Last year, University Prep took a trip to St. Vincent De Paul Society to help them on a special mission. St. Vincent helps families by providing shelter, food and clothing. Our mission was to pack bags with food for about 700 families.

My job was really fun. First, I was unfolding bags. Then, I was given a bright orange vest and was told to go outside and help answer any questions the families had and give them directions. After, I was moved from where I was and was making sure that nobody cut in the line. Finally, I was in charge of overseeing the bags that were ready to give out.

It made me feel great. The families who attended were families of low-income that possibly wouldn’t have had a meal to eat that day. But by giving them bags with useful food inside, created a feeling within me that I did something good that day. It was incredible to see the families with smiles on their faces, just like I did.

If we worked together we can have a positive and strong community. I believe working together is a great idea, and an essential component in building a nurturing community. We can help each other grow and not be left behind. We must communicate with each other to support one another.

Giving back to our community may be an inspiration for others to do the same. If a person sees you giving back they might want to do it too. We can positively influence people to help each other.

Students at University Prep are people of value by doing what we do we put our values in action representing what a person of value is. Doing all these community events is putting a positive view on University Prep Value High School.
