Last Monday, March 23, the boys’ lacrosse team played in their first home game against El Capitan, securing their first win of the season with a final score of 7-6. The team had previously played some of the toughest teams in the district including Granite Hills and Grossmont, both of which they lost. So, this win against El Capitan will hopefully boost the teams morale in preparation for their upcoming game against Hilltop.
In the first half, El Cap dominated the field scoring four goals with Valhalla only managing to make one goal in the net, bringing the score at the end of the half to 4-1 El Cap. At the beginning of the second half the Norsemen boys became much more aggressive in their offense against the Vacqueros led by senior Stephen Olivier and junior Jorden Walters.
Valhalla was in position to make a comeback by the end of the third quarter and brought the score up to 6-5 Valhalla. The boys maintained their lead through the fourth quarter with other impressive goals made by seniors Kellen Watelet and Nick Fuller, and the team ended the game with a final score of 7-6.
This was the first game the Norsemen won since the season opener on March 5. This home turf win was a real morale booster for the team after facing their three most challenging teams at the beginning of the season.
“This win is a real confidence booster,” said Fuller, “I know it’s all uphill from here and I’m excited to see what this team will accomplish during the rest of the season.”
The boys play Hilltop this Friday, March 27, at Valhalla from 7-9 p.m.
