Nothing says summer like an ice cream truck. But what if the ice cream man was a serial killer? The newly released film, “Ice Cream Man,” is all about kids facing a terrifying ice cream truck nightmare.
On Aug. 6, the Vista Theatre in Hollywood hosted the world premiere of Eli Roth’s “Ice Cream Man”, which follows a small town that turns into chaos after an ice cream man begins serving children ice cream with horrifying consequences.
The cast including Eli Roth, Ari Millen, Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Sarah Abbott, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer and Charlie Storey walked the red carpet, where they posed for photos and participated in interviews.
The Horror Section is Eli Roth’s horror media company, and “Ice Cream Man” is one of its first feature films.
Director and Actor, Eli Roth, who plays Jared’s dad in the film, says the inspiration behind “Ice Cream Man” came from being on a press tour in 2003.
“I was on the press tour for ‘Cabin Fever’, and I saw an ice cream truck,” Roth said. “The music made me salivate and want ice cream, and I wondered, ‘What if this ice cream man was a serial killer?’ I had this image of the truck driving at night, playing the music, and kids getting up and sawing their parents heads off.”
Many actors in this cast have worked with Eli before. Reuniting in this film helped strengthen relationships they had built on previous projects.
“I had worked on ‘Thanksgiving’ with Eli, where it was directed by him, and also on ‘Don’t Go in That House B—-,’ a fake trailer,” actress Karen Cliche, who plays Alison said. “This was my first time acting with him, and it was really fun. It was amazing to play his wife. We did improv together, and to see him work as a director, writer and actor was incredible.”
With the film featuring many child and teenage actors, having a cast where everyone bonded with each other helped make the experience more comfortable when filming.
“What you expect with a bunch of teenagers is that when the cameras turn off, everyone would be on their phones, but it wasn’t like that,” actor Charlie Zeltzer, who plays Jared said. “Everyone was having fun playing Jenga or on the play structures. It was a really great set and very wholesome.”
“Ice Cream Man” is now playing in theaters.
