Madhappy, a popular clothing company based in Los Angeles, has incorporated mental health awareness into its branding. As the company has grown, it has continued to emphasize its focus on building a community centered around mental well-being.
Madhappy co-founder Peiman Raf explained that the brand’s core beliefs were deeply rooted in personal experience. “I’ve struggled with mental health issues throughout my life, including depression and anxiety. I knew these were things that more people were feeling but weren’t talking about. We really used [Madhappy] as a vehicle to represent these things,” he said.
Mason Spector, another Madhappy co-founder, said that he and the other brand leaders are “always leading with optimism” and “communicating and being vulnerable with each other when we feel stressed or might be having a hard time.” He added, “If we want the rest of the world to take their own mental health more seriously, we have to do the same as well.”
Madhappy was founded in 2017 by Mason Spector, Noah Raf, Peiman Raf, and Joshua Sitt. The brand began as an online-only apparel company but soon expanded with pop-up events in Los Angeles and New York City. These events built excitement around new product drops and brand announcements while promoting Madhappy’s optimistic message. In 2023, the company opened its first flagship store on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.
In 2022, Madhappy founded a non-profit organization called The Madhappy Foundation, which supports global mental health awareness. The foundation has partnered with several like-minded organizations, including The Jed Foundation, which focuses on protecting emotional health and preventing suicide among teens and young adults; the Child Mind Institute, which provides mental health services and educational resources for children; and the University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Center, a research institution studying factors that promote well-being. Madhappy has pledged to donate 1% of all net sales to support mental health research and initiatives.
On May 8, 2025, Madhappy hosted a fundraiser at the Santa Monica Pier benefiting the Jed Foundation. There, attendees had the chance to go on rides, play carnival games, and enjoy food from Los Angeles restaurants such as Jon & Vinny’s and the Apple Pan.
Madhappy aims to continue spreading its message of optimism as it expands to new locations on the East Coast of the United States and in Tokyo, Japan.
