Here’s an interview with Alvina Kaye:
What drew you to music? Is there something specific about music that captivates you?
I just love the way that music makes you feel. Like when you find that one song that you can relate so deeply to, it just makes you feel so much better about your situation when you’re going through something rough. So yeah, I just kind of want to give that back to the people.
In your Spotify bio, apparently, you’ve mentioned you are aiming for the Grammy’s. You joined Instagram just 2 years before and your account went through an exponential growth this year in 2024 as you’ve released two singles. What are your long-term goals in the music industry?
I definitely want to go on a tour and make an album someday. The Grammys are honestly just a dream of mine. Even if it doesn’t happen, I can get my music heard by other people, and it really just makes me happy already.
You’ve released two singles- “Little Girl” and “Wildfire“.They resonate with many listeners for they circle around notions such as lives of ambitious young people. What was the inspiration that compelled you to work on these songs?
I really like writing songs based on my own life and my personal experience. So for Little Girl, I was just writing about how I was feeling like scared of growing up and like having to choose like a career path and everything. It was like something I needed to hear, so I wrote it for myself. And I’m just so grateful that people like it and they relate to it, honestly. And for Wildfire, it’s just like a teenage heartbreak song. it’s about a failing relationship where two people, they’re bad for each other, but they’re too scared to let go.
In the behind-the-scenes of “Wildfire” music video, it was quite evident that you and your friend did an appreciable amount of hard work and struggled a lot, especially with that “setting the paper on fire” part. Could you share some memorable behind-the-scene moments from the shoot?
Yeah, so none of us knew how to use a lighter at first. So that was really funny. We spent like at least an hour trying to turn on the lighter. So at the end of the day, I got a new music video and a new skill.
Your aesthetics align very closely with Olivia Rodrigo — the color palette of your profile, your entire instagram, it gives off this vibe. Who are some of the artists you idolize and why?
Definitely Olivia Rodrigo. I just feel like she’s such a great role model for young girls everywhere. She advocates for women’s rights, which is also really important to me. And I love the way she’s able to tell a story through her lyrics. And the same with Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift. I’m definitely very inspired by all three of them.
When it comes to your own playlist what genres do you find yourself drawn to the most?
I try to listen to a bit of everything, but I mostly listen to pop and a lot of musical theater, actually. I’m a huge theater kid. I really love gut-wrenching songs. Like the lyrics hit so hard. My favorite artists to listen to are Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrahams, Taylor Swift, Conan Gray and also Joshua Bassett.
Art, in general, takes on many forms and meanings. How do you explain the significance of art in the entire human civilization?
Art is definitely very important in society. I feel like the world would be very plain and boring without it, because artists and everything. It’s a great way to express one’s own individual thoughts and feelings in a creative way.
It definitely is really hectic to manage your school work alongside your passion. There are many other high schoolers out there who struggle with this particular thing. In your case, how do you manage to handle school and your music career simultaneously?
I definitely need really good time management because I also have a lot of extracurriculars outside of school. And I go to a very academic school. So I just try to dedicate at least a couple hours each week to my music. I know it’s not a lot, but whenever I have free time I just write music, whether it’s making videos for social media, or writing, or producing.
Is there anything you can share about the project you’re currently working on? And what are your expectations from that particular song or album — whatever it is going to be?
I currently haven’t decided which song I’m going to release yet. I definitely have a few songs on my list right now. But yeah, I’m excited for people to hear it once I do choose.
Your fanbase shows a strong following, including Asia and Australia. Though, who according to you is your target audience? And how do you perceive the love and support from your fanbase?
Honestly, it’s just so cool that my music is being heard from literally across the world. My target audience is just teenage girls anywhere. I just want to inspire others and be a good role model to girls. I just want to make music to help people feel better just the way how I talked about how music makes me feel.
Art is never meaningless. It knowingly or unknowingly delivers a message to the people who are keen upon it. What would you say is the most important message or quality you want people to take from your music?
I just want to give comfort to the people that are listening and songs that they can relate to.
If you were to put your entire personality into certain boxes and describe yourself using three words, how will you do that?
That’s interesting. I’d say I am creative, kind … and hardworking.
