From the creator of “Lizzie McGuire” comes a show that stars a diverse cast that follows 13-year-old Andi as she navigates family secrets and adolescence.

Meet Lilan Bowden, who plays the cool, free-spirited older sister Bex on Disney Channel’s latest show, “Andi Mack.” We chat about her transformation from shy to outgoing, her love of improv, getting into the mindset of Bex, and being an Asian American actress in Hollywood–a fun and thoughtful interview.

Lauren Tom (“Friends,” “Joy Luck Club”) plays tough-love mom Celia. We discuss the joys of working with a young cast, Asian-American Tiger Mom stereotypes, channeling her mother to play Celia, and the importance of Asian American representation on-screen–an engaging and enlightening conversation, truly an honor to interview her.

You can watch the first episode of “Andi Mack” on Disney Channel’s YouTube channel.

The second episode airs Friday, April 7, on Disney Channel.
