Panic, disunion, and fear. The onslaught of criticism following the Debate between Former President Donald Trump and President Biden weakened the current President’s standing in the 2024 election. With Biden fumbling to find his train of thought and the Republican nominee quick to capitalize on his opponent’s weaknesses, a lot has remained uncertain about what the future of elections will be.

But many people can agree on one thing; both aforementioned candidates are old. Four years ago, Biden might have been the President the country needed to save democracy, but at the age of 81, his memory is hindering his ability to clearly communicate his goals. Many of his donors noticed this after his poor debate performance and encouraged him to drop out of the race. On July 21st, the wishes of donors were realized. Joe Biden announced that he was no longer running for reelection. Instead, he would endorse his Vice President, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic candidate.

The news spread quickly, attracting supporters across the country to praise his decision. But some voters still worried about how Harris would stand against Donald Trump, considering that America has never seen a black, female President in the President’s office.

Another question proposed; how would Kamala Harris lead the country?

As a graduate of Howard University and UC San Francisco Law School, Harris knew that she wanted to become a prosecutor. Her history as a Senator and Attorney General prepared her to seek out injustice and fight for the working class, veterans and students unfairly taken from in California. In this vein, Kamala Harris supported LBTGQ + groups in San Francisco and helped drug users to seek education and employment after jail.

The Vice President’s achievements have shown a pattern; that she works for the people, a goal worthy of our attention. Now is the time for her to show America how she intends to continue this, through her policies, words, and above all, actions. Only time will tell whether that will be enough, but the donations flooding in are not the worst sign.
