Mira Costa High School’s spring production of “Mean Girls” drew enthusiastic reactions and impressed the audience. Before opening night, the show sold more than 1,000 tickets, breaking pre-sale records as the program’s most highly-anticipated performance by both students and locals alike.Â
“Mean Girls” was promoted across the local community, with many restaurants providing “Mean Girls”-themed complementary desserts and discounts on dishes. Among these restaurants included Zinc, The Strand House, Paradise Bowls, Pink’s, Simmzy’s, Brewco, Sea Level, Rock’N Fish, Tin Roof Bistro, and Saint & Second. The production was also composed of nearly 70 students who acted as on-stage performers and stage crew members behind the scenes. Â

Several students in the audience appreciated the talent and maturity of the performers during the show. “The performance actually exceeded my expectations,” said sophomore Jade Soriano. “It was PG-13, which I really enjoyed, since family-friendly shows get a little repetitive after a while.”
Many underclassmen in the Mira Costa Drama Program were inspired by the humor, talent, and live music brought by the cast and overall performance. “I thought the performance was extremely funny, had impressive vocals, honest acting, and engaging live music,” said freshman Niamh Adamis, a student currently enrolled in Drama 1. “Overall, I was amazed and inspired by this production.”
Cast members offered similar insights on the large crowds and positive reactions to the long-awaited performance. “I think we had really good audiences. We had a lot of people there, more than we have for a lot of other shows,” said junior Landen Braunstein who starred as Cady in the performance. “They were really excited and brought a lot of great energy, which really helps us get more excited and give a more enthusiastic performance.”
Many believed the success of the original “Mean Girls” film played a major role in the play’s strong turnout. “It’s a really big, popular movie so everyone was almost as hyped as the actors were,” said Braunstein. “We definitely fed off each other’s energy, which got us really locked and into our mindset.”
Overall, the audience framed the show as an impressive, inspiring, and unforgettable experience. “The audience’s energy was high during the entire show, with laughter and cheering. The bows it received at the end got a standing ovation that it definitely deserved,” said Adamis.
