On Feb. 9, the Crimson Club held its Academic Achievement Award Ceremony for the Class of 2019 for the residential students. The purpose of the event was to recognize and celebrate academic achievement of the residential students.
The Crimson Club is an honor society, established by Ms. Lopez in the fall of 2013, which is dedicated towards that goal. The three awards were categorized by the students’ grade point average (GPA): Crimson Gold for a GPA of 3.5-4.0, Crimson Silver for a GPA of 3.0-3.49, and Crimson Bronze for a GPA of 2.3-2.99.
The program started with an introduction by Ms. Burns, the 9th Grade Academy counselor, followed by a Presentation of the Colors by Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, and then an acapella of the national anthem by Sherlyn Mae Villasis from Vocal Ensemble. After Ms. Gardea’s welcoming speech, Ms. Saunders, the 9th Grade Academy coordinator, gave a speech about the history and purpose of the Crimson Club, which was followed by Ms. Charlton’s speech about college readiness. Fatima Oblea, a senior, and Elizabeth Hernandez, a junior, were selected as the student speakers for this event.
On Feb. 11, the Crimson Club held the Award Ceremony to celebrate the academic accomplishments of the Classes of 2017 and 2018. Held in the school auditorium, the residential sophomores and juniors were also rewarded and acknowledged for their hard work and good academic standing throughout each semester.
Although the residential school represents roughly half of the student population, there seems to be many more programs available for the magnet students. Therefore, the Crimson Club is a program that was made specifically for residential students to encourage and motivate them to continue their path to success.
