Sydney Gaw

Sydney is a junior at University High School. She started at the bottom as a staff writer for her school newspaper and progressively worked her way up to executive editor. She is a print and on-camera journalist exploring topics to elevate diverse voices and foster a socially inclusive, just, and equitable community. She is also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Crossroads, a literary magazine for students to develop creative writing and explore interdisciplinary writing genres in a collaborative environment. A creative writer and teacher, she has written flash fiction, short stories, and poetry. After many years of writing, Sydney is planning to publish her first book in the Summer of 2022. Outside of the newsroom, Sydney is an avid athlete. She was elected Sports Commissioner at University High School for the 2022-23 school year, and she plays lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, and runs cross country for her high school and club teams. Being involved with several aspects of her community have allowed her to gain insight into a multitude of perspectives, from athletes to artists.
