On Oct. 25, the varsity and junior varsity runners on the Granada Hills Charter cross-country team woke up before the sun at 4 a.m. to make the hour drive to Mt. San Antonio College to run the “world’s largest cross-country invitational.”

Bringing their JV team along with them for the first time to Mt. SAC, the Granada runners came ready to leave it all on the course as they ran across the famed “Valley Loop,” “Switchbacks,” “Poop Out Hill,” and “Reservoir Hill,” that make up the 3-mile course.  Participating in only one other invitational race (Bell-Jeff Invitational in September) and with two league meets canceled this season, the team was eager to get the chance to compete against formidable competition.

Senior Cristian Cucuta posted the fastest time of the Varsity boys, finishing 21st with a time of 16:09.2 in the Boys’ Varsity Sub-Sweepstakes race.  On the girls’ side, junior Natalie Realegeno beat her Mt. SAC personal record and came in 19th overall at 19:18.2 in the Girls’ Varsity Sub-Sweepstakes race.

The cross-country team’s next meet is on Oct. 30 where they will be racing against Taft in their last dual meet of the season before the West Valley League Championships.
